Donald Kerr studied Chinese Medicine originally at the Lee School of Oriental Medicine (LSOM) in Maida Vale, London with Dr Robert Lee, qualifying in Chinese Acupuncture in 1988 and ran his own clinic for many years before returning to study. In 2001 Donald joined Middlesex University where he entered their five year degree programme and graduated in June 2006 with a BSc (Hons) in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and a Bachelor of Medicine from Beijing Zhong Yi Daxue*.
The course was a collaboration between Middlesex University and the *Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the first of its kind to be given official recognition. Its programme of study was based upon the Chinese model and included a five month placement in two of China’s top TCM hospitals, Xi yuan hospital and the China-Japan friendship hospital “Zhong Ri You Hao Yi Yuan”.
The placement offered a unique opportunity to see first hand how they treat many conditions in the following departments Cardiology, Neurology, Respiratory, Gynaecology, Dermatology, Traumatology/ Surgery and Paediatrics in addition to the Acupuncture departments of both hospitals. Donald also spent a lot of time in the Qi Gong department with the head of the Qi Gong for Xi Yuan Xu HongTao Daifu (Dr) famous in America for his lectures and skills. Dr Xu was able to introduce Donald to Grandmaster Yu Yong Nian of Zhan Zhuang Qi Gong with whom Donald spent five months studying with and continues to train under this world renowned Master of Qi Gong.
Donald has further expanded his clinical experience of Acupuncture and Herbal medicine under Professor Song Xuan Ke (the noted TCM Therapist well known for his success with fertility treatments) and Dr Tiejun Tang (noted a specialist in China, qualified in both Western and Eastern medicine) at The Asante Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (London) and also within London’s Whittington Hospital Pain Clinic.
To compliment his skills in Chinese Medicine Donald is a qualified Tai Chi Instructor (Sifu) for the Yongquan Tai Chi Chuan Association with some twenty two years experience including Qi Kung and medical Qi Kung. He has also written a book called “Complete Health and Well-being with Tai Chi” available from Jeremy Mills Publishing.
He is a member of the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is bound by their code of conduct.
